The Thief Became Blind as Soon as he Snatched the Luggage From the Elder man

Ubqari Magazine - March 2014

So! that is why I wished to forgive him in such a way that on the day of judgement our dispute may not be registered. And in order to provide justice for me, hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) may not have to face any hardships and that he (PBUH) may not have to wait.

Once upon a time I met a girl in the college. She was in 2nd year. It was her habit that she used to say salam in a loud voice and by standing up to every girl coming in or leaving from the college. So much love and cultured style that she used to astonish us. It used to appear as if every girl was her real relative. The girls used to get anxious that why she would salute them while they did not know each other. Often she used to reply affectionately that we were all Muslims. And that we are all sisters towards each other. So do you not even know your so much close relative? Due to her habit every girl used to respect her and used to earn the reward of fulfilling a sunnah too. Now I would tell you a story of forgiving attitude too in her words:

I will tell you the story of a pious old man that I had read somewhere. That a pious old man who was very weak and helpless, but he had a deep rooted desire to travel for holy pilgrimage (hajj). For this he collected small amounts of money for a long time and made an intention to go for pilgrimage. When he went for hajj his monetary belongings were with him in a small hand bag that he had taken with him. During the journey a mischief came in the mind of a young man. He snatched that hand bag from the old man and fled away. All of a sudden while running away he lost his eye sight, and became incapable of going ahead. Knowing about his plight the young man became quite ashamed of himself. He cried a lot and pleaded a lot to people that during the journey he had done such an evil thing to the old man and that he got the punishment for that. For God sake! Go and find that old man and seek forgiveness on my behalf. Give this bag to him too. And beg him to pray for my eye sight to restore. People started looking for the old man and they came to know that the old man was residing in a mosque. The people waited for him to come out. When the old man came out of the mosque, people gathered and told him about the whole thing and sought forgiveness for the thief. On this the old man said, that I had forgiven him at the time when he had run away after snatching my bag. Because on the day of judgement mine and your lord, Hazrat Muhammad(PBUH)  will not enter the heaven till the time he would have all of his ummah entered the heaven. So I do not want that apart from waiting about the decisions of so many of the ummatis, he  should also have to wait for the decision between me and this young man and that his entering into the heaven would delay. So! That is why I wished to forgive him in such a way that on the day of judgement our dispute may not be registered. And in order to provide justice for me, Hazrat Muhammad(PBUH)  may not have to face any hardships and that he may not have to wait.

Subhaan Allah (Glorious is Allah!): What a love for Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)  it was, and what sincerity of intention it was, what a nice thought it was. When I heard this I said to that girl, that now forgiving anyone is no more a problem. Whoever would do any harm, we can keep on forgiving them according to this thought. Readers! If we adopt this way of thinking and this sincerity of intention then imagine yourselves that on this thought and on this intention how much Allah and Hazrat Muhammad(PBUH)  would be happy and pleased with us and would provide us with the shelter and proximity on the Day of Judgment. By the will of Allah, indeed, forgiving has become so much easy that it is beyond description.
